Website Redesign

OBJECTIVE

Java Cats Cafe is the first cat cafe to have opened in Atlanta, Georgia. This unique business allows its patrons to interact with friendly (adoptable!) shelter cats while enjoying coffee or other cafe items.

I chose to redesign Java Cats Cafe’s existing website (pictured below) because I felt that its user experience might be hindering the business. There were several usability issues that caused confusion and/or frustration - particularly on the home page and in the reservation system. Through this redesign, I hope that cat-lovers and skeptics alike are more likely to visit this establishment after visiting the website.

HOME PAGE REDESIGN

In order to reduce confusion regarding the business, a brief description of how it works is located directly below the hero. Below this, the three necessary steps are laid out in easily digestible chunks with related calls to action for each step. For those who would like to learn more, the FAQ is conveniently located underneath these three steps.
The main goal with the home page was to include the most relevant information about the business; all other supplementary information is now located in appropriate pages within the site. What is left on the home page is specifically geared towards newcomers in order to pique their interest.

RESERVATION SYSTEM

Because Java Cats Cafe relies heavily on its online reservation system, the main objective was to make the entire process simple, quick, and aesthetically pleasing.
'What to expect' is strategically placed right above the reservation system so users are more likely to skim through it as they scroll down. Within the reservation system, there is a status bar outlining which step the user is currently on. The entire process remains on the same page.

ABOUT PAGE

During initial user testing, one of the biggest issues regarding the original website was the large body of text located on the bottom of the home page (pictured above in Objective). Although these paragraphs contain most of the crucial information necessary to understand the business, 100% of testers did not read it at all due to its length and location.
The most important pieces of information from this body of text have been relocated to either the home or the about page. The long sentences have been revised to be short and succinct in order to grab readers' attention and encourage reading.
